We’re seeking an Assistant Tasting Room Manager! The right candidate will have exceptional grace under pressure skill set fused with a sense of humor and keen organizational skills. This is a position that oversees beertender staff as well as inventory management. It will require working with the Tasting Room Manager, and brewery staff to keep our customers immersed in an inviting, efficient, safe, and fun environment.

We’re looking for an extraordinary individual who is as skilled with an excel sheet as a broom, who is able to leap problems in a single bound, who can occasionally fix things, and in short, inspire confidence in customers and brewery staff by leading by example.

A knowledge of craft beer and our offerings is paramount, as is a way to relay this to customers. Preference will be given to prior experience in craft beer segment or beverage industry. Certified Beer Server a plus.

New Beer(s)! Dogs! AvoFest Primer!

It's been a fun and frivolity filled summer so we'd like to thank you for doing your part in bringing your vibrancy to our brewery. Just in time for the impending beer drinking that marks Oktoberfest, we are excited to announce our next beer release, the Islanderfest Marzen. This elegant and malty German amber lager brings toasty bready wonder with a restrained bitterness 5.4 % ABV, 20 IBU and all you. Last time we brewed this was about August 2016! There will be much rejoicing.


When will we release this liquid wonder? Seems like it would fit well with the Dog Park fundraiser that we're hosting this Friday, Swept 13, 4-8 pm! C-Dog has been working with the City of Carpinteria to establish a dog park. So come hoist a pint and bid on some silent auction items. Your favorite canine thanks you in advance.


We'd also be remiss not to mention the Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce's annual Culinary Crawl, Saturday from 4-6. We join forces with 16 local restaurants and traipse from brewery to restaurants. Full details here:


All that traipsing will likely leave you longing for a few quality tunes, and Spoonful will be on deck Saturday with their blend of sonic magic, 6-9. Dudes are legit, and we're stoked to have them back. Speaking of Stoked...


The Avocado Festival approaches, Oct 4-6, and we have prepared accordingly wtih a trifecta of goodness. First, the Avocado Honey Ale (no avocados were harmed brewing this beer), then the Avocado Honey IPA ( an IPA brewed with Avocado Honey), and finally, STOAKED, our Avocado Honey Ale aged in American Oak. Look for release dates soon!

Our 18th Anniversary

We are writing to express our thanks for your support on this journey. We made it another lap around the cosmic mash tun: it's our 18th birthday and we want to hang out with you, July 20th! We'll be extending the patio and rigging up the stage and generally getting rad. There will be plenty of sun, shade, frivolity, and the release of our 18th Anniversary Ale, a Bourbon Barrel Aged version of our Double Red Optimist Ale, currently on tap, which is out of control amazing in its balance and flavor and smiling producing properties. We've got musical acts SolTree and the one and only Mestizo LA lined up for a day of smiles and laughs! Tiki Toss tournament too! Hope to see you there!

Time for a little update as to what's happening over here at Island Brewing Company. Our brain and brewtrust have engineered Optimist, a Double Red Ale, which may be flowing by the time you read this, and which will surely help release your own inner optimist. 8.9% ABV, 31 IBU and headed for you! If all goes according to plan we'll also have 2 variants of Bourbon Barrel Aged Starry Night Stout, one aged in Heaven Hill barrels, the other in Wild Turkey at the end of the month! And we just brewed our Perpetual Saison, so stay tuned for details on that wonderful Belgian release as well.

 We've had a stellar lineup of talented musicians traipsing through and the hits keep coming. We've got the likes of One Two Tree who will max out the Aloha this Saturday, 6-9. Next Saturday, it's Carpinteria's very own much-loved and high energy Skamakazie, and this month also sees the debut of The Knitpickers, who trace their roots back to Big Tweed and beyond, along with another dose of the Cadillac Angels for good measure! Music Sundays too, and March 27 sees the return of jazz guitarist Tom Collins and company! Tuesday Trivia to boot! Synch up here. Island Brewing Company Seeking Full-Time Assistant Brewer

Hey-O: We’re hiring!

The ideal candidate will have relevant brewing experience within a production brewery, outstanding communication and problem solving skills in addition to a keen eye for detail, the ability to follow SOPs, work well with others, and possess a deep love for beer.


The Assistant Brewer will put a premium on working safely and have  knowledge of safe handling practices within the space of the brewery. The nature of the work is manual involving lifting of 5 and 15.5-gallon kegs (165 lbs.) and 55 lb. grain bags. Safe operational knowledge of both fork lift and pallet jack is a plus.

Chief duties include:
-Assisting in all aspects of brewing, from staging grain, setting up hoses and valves, mash-in, rake-out, break down, and clean up. 
-Raw material management.
-CIP of fermenters, brewhouse, and brite tanks.
-Filtering with plate and frame 40 x 40.
-Labelling, bottling, kegging, canning and assisting with all other packaging.

-Maintaining clean and orderly work environment.

-Keg cleaning.

Additional duties may include:
-Maintaining jockey boxes, taps and draught lines for outside use.
 -Preventative maintenance and upkeep of tanks, pumps, compressors, and other machinery.
-Participating in critical assessment of beers, including sensory analysis.

Important Skills and Abilities:
-Positive outlook and attitude.
-Ability to work unsupervised while maintaining safety and quality standards.
-Strong mechanical aptitude.
-Ability to multitask.
-Ability to work with other departments and work in a diverse team environment.
-Work some offshifts, weekends, and holidays.

Qualified Candidates will possess the following:
-Enjoy physically demanding work environment.

It's been a bit, but we thought we'd check in. We've got a couple of treats coming up that you should know about. First, our beloved Scotch Ale the Jubilee has emerged from a 21-month slumber in American Oak Bourbon Barrels. Today the team transferred it to the brite tank, the next stop on its long journey to you. We're aiming for an end of the month release, so watch this space.

If you have been living on a deserted island and just returned, let us also inform you of the Resilience IPA now on tap, a benefit brew organized by Sierra Nevada. 1500+ breweries all brewing the same IPA with all the proceeds donated to Camp Fire relief efforts. We've got a few kegs left, but it's going fast!

We're also putting together a collaboration brew with our friends down the road at BrewLab. Let's just say it'll be like nothing we've ever done. So that's on the radar as well.

We've had some stellar musical acts this month and have an impending line up of quality endeavors. There's a new food truck on the scene, Game Over Catering, that's been serving up authentic Mexican deliciousness Friday and Saturdays. This weekend we'll have Rick Reeves on the patio on Sunday January 27th, as well as the next installment of our Stories on Tap series, in which seven brave storytellers grab the mic and regale you with tales sure to enlighten and entertain. Owner and founder Paul Wright will be one of them, with a cold sea story for you. The Tuesday Trivia bunch keeps your synapses firing and in February (!) we've got the latest incarnation of Big Tweed known as the Knitpickers, Saturday February 2, 6-9 pm.

We'll keep our Elves on Overtime edition short and sweet, but want to keep you in the loop on what's happening around these parts.


First, it's our duty to let you know that our beloved Quadimodo Belgian Quadruple has made a rare holiday appearance. Think four different specialty malts and Belgian Candi Sugar, then aged for two (2!) years. The end result is stone fruit and fig flavor in a delicious malty ale, 9.2% ABV and 34 IBUs. Perfect for a....wait for it....


Holiday Sing-Along! The annual Holiday Sing-Along is nearly upon us and is certain to cure any Grinch or Scrooge among us. The festivities start Sunday, Decemeber 16th at 5:00. We'll have the big holiday sound of the Santa Barbara Trombone Society kicking things off before we segue into the community effort of lifting song into the rafters. Always a special time.


Finally, don't neglect the many opportunities craft beer has to offer for gift giving. Sure there's our flagship beers and special Bourbon-barrel aged beers, which would make nice stocking stuffers, but there's also gift cards, growlers, hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts--both long and short sleeve--insulated pints, growler coozies, pint coozies, perhaps even an Island Nation membership for that certain someone. We've got a lot of things on the site but why not shop with less stress with a beer in your hand while you peruse our merchandise room.

(Carpinteria, CA) – The results from the World Beer Championships at the Beverage Tasting Institute are in. A panel of expert judges at the Beverage Tasting Institute tasked with ranking Island Brewing Company’s Starry Night Stout awarded it 93 points out of a possible 100, for a Gold Medal and an exceptional ranking. The tasting notes pretty much say it all: “Ebony color. Aromas of German chocolate cake, leather, banana muffins, and clove with a satiny, vibrant, effervescent, fruity medium-full body and a warming, captivating, medium-long old-fashioned coffee, blackened herbs, salted caramel, and black toast finish. A bold and brawny export stout that offers fruit-laced, rich flavors.”


“We’re happy with the award,” says owner and founder Paul Wright. “There are so many great beers out there that to be recognized at this level in the company with long and established brands is a testament to all the hard work our team is putting in day in and out to brew the best beer possible.”


Foreign stouts are dark brown to black in color and are strong in alcohol ranging from 5.5-9%. Assertive flavors of roasted coffee and dark chocolate provide the majority of the character of this style, with many versions also featuring medium-to-high hop bitterness. Foreign, or export, stouts were first brewed as a higher gravity version of sweet or dry stouts. These beers were first brewed to withstand export to tropical markets, but today may be found nearly everywhere.


Island Brewing Company’s Starry Night Stout is no stranger to accolades, having previously won Gold at both the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup.


The World Beer Championships is America's oldest annual international beer competition and has been operated objectively for 25 years. It is a blind tasting, medal-based competition that awards based on a 100-point scale. Beers are judged by trained staff joined by top beer professionals and buyers from retailers and restaurants using a proven, consistent, proprietary methodology developed in collaboration with Cornell University. The World Beer Championships distributes its monthly results to consumers and the trade through, a free consumer website with a hundred thousand unique users a month on its searchable databases and via social media @tastingsbti.'

There's the normal too-much-to-tell in these here parts, but we will try to distill just a bit of what is going on in the near future so you can keep the FOMO at bay. But first to the beers!

 Naturally, we have some events that pair well with any of the above beers.


First up, the family fun that is our Pumpkin Carving Contest. Oct. 30 it's BYOP for a night of pumpkin slicing, dicing, and prizes, 5:30-7:30. We are continually amazed with the creativity that goes into sculpting these gourds, and this year will be no exception.


We will host our first ever Halloween costume contest. Wednesday Oct. 31, 8:00. Our esteemed panel of judges will crown a winner-takes-all victor. In addition to bragging rights, he or she will be taking home a new Island Nation membership (or Island Nation renewal). That would be our frequent flier program that enables one to enjoy the big beer for the little beer price for one year! Get those costumes together!


The final pieces are falling into place on our first ever Tiki Party and Board Swap. Mark your calendar for Saturday Nov. 3rd. We'll host a board swap in the parking lot. Winter is coming and we know you've got a few boards (surf, skate, wetsuits anyone?) that are looking for a new home, and there's a good chance you might go home with something magic too. 11-3 pm. Then we'll get moving and grooving with Aloha master Karlin Ladera and his tribe, 5-8 pm. We'll have deals on the above Tiki mugs which are going to look great in your life and there will be food and a Hawaiian shirt contest too. Stay tuned!

Finally, we don't want to be the ones to point out that we are rapidly approaching a festive part of the year, but that is indeed the case. Our private party rental room has been getting a lot of love from local business and organizations looking for off site team bonding. Greetings Craft Beer Enthusiasts!

It's been a busy blur of a summer here at Island Brewing Company and we thank you for being part of the magic. We've had some phenomenal music acts, engaging events both at the brewery and further afield, and we've got a whole lot more coming down the pike in September, so check out our calendar below. But first to the beers!

If you've been living under a rock, you may not know that our collaboration brew with Rincon Brewery and BrewLab resulted in a spot-on, thirst-quenching beer known aptly enough as the Tres Cervezerias Pilsner. Think Galaxy and Simcoe hops, a light body, low abv, and all day fun in the sun. We've still got a few kegs left for the sunny days ahead, so get on it if you don't know about it.

And on the other end of the stylistic spectrum, we have a very special beer coming up . That would be the return of the RISistance Russian Imperial Stout. This is the biggest beer we've ever brewed. Silky, smooth, chocolate forward. Last year's edition was 11.5%, so proceed accordingly. Seriously good stuff.

And is it too early to talk about Avocado Festival? We've got our Avo Honey IPA underway, so look for that sumptuous piece of craft beer magic in the not-so-distant future. Classic pine, citrus, and stone fruit flavors joining 60 lbs of Avocado Honey for truly a unique IPA with copper colored crushability.


September starts on the right foot, and keeps on going. We've got a calendar chock full of musical and non musical adventure. This Saturday, September 1, we'll have the local and much-loved Skamakazie in the brewery for the usual phenomenal time. We've also got Will Breman, King Bee, Rick Reeves, So Far So Near, Charlie Baker, Alice Austin, and Cabbage. Food trucks Phoevermore and WoodStock Farina will be here, then there's Tuesday Trivias, an always interesting talk from the good folks at Santa Barbara Creek Week, and at the end of the month, our third edition of Stories on Tap in which speakers regale with tales of adventure and misadventure. The successful candidate will have an uncommon knowledge and passion for craft beer that will resonate with outside accounts. We’re looking for someone with who can crush the following duties:

- Fulfill account orders via a daily delivery route.

- Provide timely and accurate delivery to accounts of kegs, bottles,

-Merchandise/stock/rotate stock at outside accounts.

-Add to additional sales totals when the opportunity presents itself.

-Develop and maintain key partnerships with retailers and restaurants.


 If this sounds like you and you have a personable/sociable personality, a valid CA driving license, clean driving record, impeccable driving skills and a strong back( this is a physically demanding position – there will be much lifting of 55 and 165 lb kegs and 25 lb cases), we want to hear from you. Especially if you are detail orientated in invoicing, reconciling, loading, unloading, returning keg shells, and available for occasional weekend work during beer festivals and tastings. New Beer Release! Hibiscus Sunrise Pilsner

Spring is in the air, and the masterminds here at Island Brewing Company have come up with a special, single batch brew, the Hibiscus Sunrise Pilsner. This delectable delight features three pounds of Gold Nugget Mandarin zest from fruit grown on Rincon Mountain, with five gallons of Hibiscus tea added for a refreshing 4.3% abv, 25 ibu easy drinking beer.

We joined many other breweries around the country who participated in the Pink Boots Collaboration Brew, and we had an all star cast of local women beer enthusiasts getting this one done. A portion of the funds from beer sales of the the Hibiscus Sunrise Pilsner will go to the Pink Boots Society, to help women beer professionals advance their careers in the brewing industry. Hibiscus Sunrise Pilsner will be available on draft, in cans, and growlers.

Get Used to It/ Get Prepared: Conversations with First Responders

We’re hosting a community-minded discussion with a cross section of first responders on how to optimize your emergency plans, Wednesday, March 21 from 7-8:30 pm. Every time it rains, the burn scar from the Thomas Fire has us on edge. And while you might have evacuated multiple times already, there’s always room for improvement. The next three-to-five years is the time frame for our hillsides to return to normal. Firefighter Moses Romo will detail what to have in your emergency bag and shelter in place box, as well as offer practical details to make the next time you have to leave an organized, as-smooth-as-it-can-be affair.

We’ll also hear from emergency dispatcher Raquel Zick for her perspectives on coordinating a community in crisis, and a former paramedic Ryan Zick. Finally, we’ll also hear from each other, share what we’ve learned so far to be ahead of the game for the next evacuation. And we will additionally have a few beers, too, in the aim of optimal community building! Hope to see you then!

Low Tide Alert! Baltic Blackbird Porter!

Just a quick note to let you know what we know about what is happening here at Island Brewing Company. For starters, this is a LOW TIDE ALERT, repeat, LOW TIDE ALERT, which means we are two-five gallon kegs away from the very, very last of the Baltic Blackbird Porter. This has proven to be a beer capable of getting one through a tumultuous winter. Its deep, delicious, roast will be missed. Get on it before it's gone!

What this means, of course, is that we have a bevy of phenomenal beers coming your way. As soon as the Baltic Blackbird bids adieu, an Imperial Amber will rise in its place, helping you to conquer all. We've kept the batch size low to maximize flavor concentration and wow at first sip factor. The end result is 8.5% abc, 20 IBU beauty that is likely to be your new go-to beer.

Friday, we also join many breweries around the country that are participating in the Pink Boots Collaboration Brew, a women empowering beer brewing extravaganza that will see our brew crew brew a Pilsner with Hibiscus and Tangerine. This should be ready to roll sometime around April 1st, no, really. Exciting times for women in the craft beer industry. Check out!

And while the timing is emerging, the barrel aging progresses. On the radar is a Jubilee aged in Scotch barrels, our beloved Big Island Barleywine, 2017 edition, emerging from Bourbon barrels, and a Jubilee aged in Grenache barrels. Watch this space.

In regional craft beer news, the Central Coast Beer Week kicks off March 23 - April 1. The Central Coast Beer Fest takes place Friday March 24th in Atascadero at the Sunken Gardens from 12 -4. Support a fallen firefighter: Stewart family fundraiser, Jan 6

The Thomas Fire brought an incredible display of what firefighters do. Stan Stewart was a dedicated member of the Los Padres Hot Shots for over 30 years, and worked tirelessly to protect the nation’s forests. He was a leader in the firefighting community and dedicated his life to training personnel and improving the safety of boots on the ground. Sadly, Stan lost a nine-year battle with cancer in November. We had this fundraiser on the schedule before the Thomas fire, and the experience and aftermath of it adds a tangible poignancy to all those who battle wildfires on our behalf.

January 6, we’ll be hosting the Santa Barbara County FireFighters Association in a fundraiser for Stan’s family as they face daunting medical bills. Please make a point to come by, do what you can, and thank a firefighter one of the best ways you can, by supporting the family of the fallen. We're fairly certain camaraderie with this crew will be through the roof. We'll have live music by the Surf Bumz, fantastic auction and raffle items, Tri-tip on the grill from Shalhoob Meat Company, and maybe even a fresh, craft beer with your name on it. See you then!

Find your walking shoes, it’s time to hit the streets in the 4th Annual Carpinteria Volksmarch. Sunday, November 19, we embrace the camaraderie that is only found walking from brewery to brewery to meadery to brewery, meeting new friends and old along the way. 

The idea is simple: embrace the old German tradition of the Volksmarch, or people walk, and hike a 2.3-mile route from brewery to brewery to cidery to brewery, all the while promoting fitness, fun, and supporting a worthwhile cause.

The Volksmarch starts at Island Brewing Company at 1:00 pm. From there, marchers can head either to The Apiary and BrewLAB, or to Rincon Brewery. After that, it’s a sprint to the finish back where live music from Paris Slim and Frank will await. Tickets will be $10 and proceeds will go to benefit Forrest Holt, a local four-year-old boy born with a rare blood disorder called Vascular Malformation. After having a major surgery in June, Forrest has been in recovery and undergoing kidney dialysis while awaiting a kidney transplant. With over 60 costly surgeries and procedures in the first four years of life, the road has not been easy for him or his family.

So grab a friend or two, or three, grab a beer and let’s converge on what will be a beautiful day and a beautiful endeavor. In addition to the unique blend of roadside camaraderie found only when galavanting through town waving a beer flag on a non-competitive stroll, participants will receive a passport to be stamped at each location. On successful return to Island Brewing Company, participants will be granted a medal commemorating their efforts. Smiles will abound.

Whew! It's been quite a summer. You people are thirsty! We're looking for a beertender!

Island Brewing Company has been brewing award winning craft beer in Carpinteria since 2001. We are seeking an uncanny combination of enthusiasm, beer-savviness, and stratospheric customer service in our tasting room for a bartender position. The candidate will come pre-wired with a sense of humor and a passion for craft beer.

Responsibilities include:
-Treating customers with utmost courtesy and care.
-Setting up tasting room and patio for the day
-Maintaining neat, orderly, and clean work and customer environment
-Stocking kegs, bottles, growlers, and merchandise
-Daily heavy lifting of 5-gallon (50lb) and 15.5-gallon (150 lbs)
-Learning and operating POS system
-Accurate cash and credit card transactions
-Being intimately familiar with Island Brewing Company beers and company history.
-Knowledge of the brewing process
-Cleaning tasting room, restrooms, and patio at the end of the night
-Grace under pressure; problem solving and thinking on your feet.
-Running cash register reports and daily reconciliation.
The ideal candidate has an understanding of craft beer culture, history and its current trajectory. We're looking for someone who has previous bartending experience and a positive professional attitude that can work as a team player. Nights, weekends, and some holidays may be required as work load and staffing dictate. Most of our current bar staff are Cicerone certified; a preference will be given to the candidate possessing this credential.

It's starting to feel like we are half way through summer, but it's also starting to feel like we still have the big half to go. We've got an August chock full of happenings; new beers, the Surf'n'Suds Beer Fest, a bevy of bands, singers, and food trucks, read on!

The beer festival in our back yard Surf'n'Suds is slated for liftoff August 12. The fifth annual edition will see over 70 craft breweries, wineries, and ciders on Linden field. Mega-sized beer pong, cornhole, food trucks, and live music will create an amazing day. Tickets sell out, so we included this link so you can be a part of the magic:

We will also be releasing our collaboration brew with brewLab and Rincon Brewery. The appropriately titled 'Tres Cervezerias' is an XPA with delightful proportions: 5.4 % and 31 IBUs. Mosaic, Simcoe, and Galaxy hops mingling for a pale golden extraordinarily refreshing extra pale ale. Again, not to be missed.

What's flowing on draft here now? Great question. That would be the Blonde, Paradise Pale Ale, Avocado Honey Ale, IPA, Tropical Lager, Jubilee, our Variance the Hop Hefner (half IPA, half Hefeweizen), the King Tide, Hopliner IPA, and the Pacific Coast Hefeweizen. Bottle selections include the Blonde, Avocado Honey Ale, Paradise Pale Ale, IPA, Hopliner, King Tide, Big Island Barleywine, Starry Night Stout, Barrel Aged Jubilee, Bourbon Barrel Big Island, Barrel Aged Perpetual Saison, Bourbon Barrel Rigamarole, Barrel Aged Big Island from 2015, and the Bourbon Barrel Starry Night Stout. And finally the Tropical Lager and Hopliner are in cans.

As far as the rest of what we know about the future, in a nutshell we've got food Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, music and Trivia on Tuesdays, bands on Saturday, and Sunday. CARPINTERIA, CA – The approach of summer and long sun drenched days also brings a flurry of international beer competitions in California. Island Brewing Company recently secured wins in both the Los Angeles International Beer Competition and the San Diego International Beer Competition. “The pace of expansion in craft beer continues to be extraordinary. There’s never been a better time to be a craft beer drinker,” says owner and founder Paul Wright. “So to be recognized in the crowded space that is craft beer is a win for our whole team and program.”

Using a certified panel of judges in a blind-tasting method, the Los Angeles International Beer Competition, judged April 22-23, awarded Island Brewing Company a Silver Medal for the Big Island Barleywine, and a Silver Medal for the Jubilee Ale in the Scotch Ale category, while the barrel-aged Perpetual Saison went on to earn an Honorable Mention.

The San Diego International Beer Competition , April 21-22, was open to all breweries regardless of size. Also judged through a blind tasting and Certified Beer Judge format, six months of bourbon barrel aging paid off for the Rigamorole, a Double Brown ale that went on to claim Bronze in the Wood and Barrel Aged Beer category. “It was our first win in the San Diego competition,” noted head brewer Ryan Morrill, " an area well-known for its outstanding beers. To pick up this award, as well as recognition in LA is an affirmation of the hard work our team puts in. Everyday, in every beer."
